Ready to Run: Lista para Correr – El Cruce

I am excited. I am recovering and I am grateful to be able to run.

Estoy emocionada. Me estoy recuperando y estoy agradecida de poder volver a correr.

2012 was a bit like a bipolar year. When the times were good…they were fabulous and when the times were bad…they really sucked. After coming home to Dunedin – NZ for Christmas and summer I was able to open my eyes and actually see the damage I had done to my mind and body. I was disappointed in myself, that I had let myself get so low. And in hindsight I should have called it quits earlier in the year to make for an easier recovery.  But hindsight is wonderful!

El 2012 fue un año un poco bipolar. Cuando los tiempos fueron buenos…fueron fabulosos, y cuando los tiempos fueron malos…realmente apestaron. Luego de llegar a casa en Dunedin – NZ para navidad y el verano fui capaz de abrir los ojos y darme cuenta del daño que le había hecho a mi mente y mi cuerpo. Estaba decepcionada conmigo misma, me había dejado hundir tanto. En retrospectiva, debería haber dejado todo a principios de año que la recuperación sea más fácil. Sin embargo, la retrospectiva es maravillosa!

Home…to recover

So here I am. Gearing up, slowly but surely, for El Cruce. A 3 day stage race from Chile to Argentina. Running 30km, 40km and 26km from the picturesque foothills across snow covered volcanoes to the next camp.

Así que, aquí estoy. Preparandome, despacio pero seguro, para El Cruce Una carrera de 3 etapas desde Chile a Argentina, corriendo 30 Km, 40 Km y 26 Km entre los pintorescos senderos a través de volcanes cubiertos de nieve hacia el próximo campamento.

I took a good six weeks off…time to let my system rest. My lymphatic, adrenal, liver and immunity had all packed a sad. My body had had enough. I started on a green, clean, detoxifying diet, I stopped drinking coffee, I rested when I was tired and loaded up on vitamins and minerals. I focused on breathing through yoga and Pilates, balance and strength, I had acupuncture, massage and physiotherapy and slowly, 1 minute by minute, I bought back running. I am happy. I feel alive again, strong again and extremely grateful to have been able to learn this lesson. Sometimes we need a reminder…to think about what is important to us. What is it we are actually striving for? And if we take a good look…maybe we have already got that. Maybe we are enough as we are. And the races, the running, the travels, the training is just an incredible bonus. And wherever that takes us…we should go…gratefully.

Me tome seis buenas semanas…tiempo para que mi sistema descanse. Mi sistema linfático, inmune, el suprarrenal y el hígado se habían malhumorado y peleado. Mi cuerpo había tenido suficiente. Comencé una dieta verde, limpia, y desintoxicante, deje de beber café, descansé cuando estaba cansada, y me recargué de vitaminas y minerales. Me enfoqué en la respiración a través de yoga y pilates, fuerza y balance, hice acupuntura, masajes y fisioterapia y lentamente, minuto a minuto, volví a correr. Estoy felíz. Me siento viva y fuerte de nuevo, y totalmente agradecida de haber aprendido esta lección. A veces necesitamos un recordatorio…para pensar que es lo importante para nosotros.  Para que nos estamos esforzando? Y si miramos bien…quizás es algo que ya tenemos. Quizás estamos bien como somos. Y las carreras, correr, los viajes, los entrenamientos, son sólo un increíble bonus. Y donde sea que eso nos lleve…debemos ir…agradecidos.

El Cruce will be a breathe of fresh air. I will be able to see it…I mean really see it with a new outlook. To enjoy the people all going for different reasons, aims and challenges. To see the landscape for all its beauty. And to run…free in the mountains!

El Cruce será un soplo de aire fresco. Seré capaz de verlo…a realmente verlo desde una nueva perspectiva. De disfrutar a la gente corriendo por diferentes razones, objetivos y retos. De ver el paisaje por toda su belleza. Y de correr…libre en las montañas!

  2. I spotted you running a couple of times in Dunedin over Christmas – didn’t want to interrupt by calling out :). I always go back home for some solid recovery time as well. Good luck with the running this year!

    Impresionente el bolg, me encanta leerlo y ver las fotos que haces, verdaderamente son muy buenas. Me gusta muchissimo como describes esos sentimientos en la montaña, yo los comparto contigo al 100%. Transmites buen royo, tranquilidad y sencillez. Eres genial!! Me encantaria algun dia conocerte y compartir unos pocos kilometros, seria un gran placer. Aunque creo que sera dificil ya que voy muy muy por detras tuyo … jajajaajja

    • Keep on Keeping on…you will find the right thing soon. Have a really good look at everything: mental, spiritual, physical and social…what is not balanced? and try to work with that first. Good Luck!
