In March 2013 the Salomon family arrived in my home town – Dunedin, New Zealand – to begin our two week adventure of my home trails and summits, the breath taking Central Otago and then on to the North Island for the Tarawera100. It was wonderful to share these special moments filled with colour, nature, emotion and inspiration with the team and also to open this experience up to the rest of the world.
Then when I became injured in May, Salomon gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. To work with the whole team in the Annecy Design Centre. To share my inspiration and experience through a clothing collection for women.
I started with a blank board and ended up with a colourful room covered in pictures from around the world, summits, plants and mountains. People, patterns, colours, styles and more. Then over two weeks we gathered all of this information and pulled it into six pieces to develop. We focused on three parts to the collection. The running dress – my favourite of the collection, the running tank and skort and the leisure 3/4 pants, merino tank and the jacket.
Over the next year we continued, with no compromise, to create something special. That showed my inspiration from home and to be able to share that through the beautiful colour selection and placement that flows throughout the collection. The feminine shape shows in all pieces. Technical fabrics assist with breathability, are quick to dry and still feel comfortable and sit beautifully. Each piece is about moving with freedom. And being free to show your colours, character and feminity.
